Enforcement and monitoring

The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) is competent for the control of plant protection products:

  1. for the products as they are brought on the market, stored or used, and
  2. for the residues in the food chain.

Plant protection product that will not end up in the food chain but are e.g. only used in ornamental crops are being controlled by the Federal Environmental Inspection of our FPS Public Health. Also treated seeds are falling within their competences.

Plant protection products for non professional use (home and garden) are being controlled by both inspection services.

The monitoring of the presence of plant protection products in the environment is a competence of the regions. This concerns presence in the air and the soil as well as in surface, ground and drinking water.
