When a non-authorised plant protection product is used in a trial, an authorisation must be requested in advance. This may relate to the following cases:
- A plant protection product which is not authorised in Belgium. For example, a product with a new active substance or a new formulation;
- A plant protection product which is authorised in Belgium, but which is used in a non-authorised application. For example, another crop, dose, application method or time.
An authorisation is granted following the positive recommendation of the Authorisation Committee. This committee will verify whether the risk for human and animal health, and the environment, is acceptable. Such trials are only permitted if they are carried out under controlled conditions and for limited surface areas and quantities.
An authorisation can be requested for the import and/or for the use of a plant protection product. The issued authorisation is valid for a specific quantity and for a specific crop.
